The Wind... The Clouds... The Rain... and the gigs just keep gettin' better! Chuck Betson and his staff for the Atlantic City Surf went out of their way to make us feel like Kings on Saturday, March 16. The event was to celebrate the Atlantic City Surf's opening day of ticket sales for the 2002 season. Two radio stations did live remotes from Sandcastle Stadium, and one lucky winner won tickets to see Neil Diamond live that night. Splash the mascot was boogying up a storm and Chiz Wolfe returned to the drum throne to do a full gig (not just one or two songs) for the first time in over 20 years.
Despite flying sticks, busted strings, and a singer partly missing in action (thought we forgot about you didn't you, Steve?), the band played a phenomenal set. Even our recently departed bassist Joe Zedny showed up for support and ended up coming up for backing vocals on Summertime Blues. As we said, Marty our drummer couldn't make it, but called in on his cell to wish Chiz all the best in triumphant re-appearance, and let the rest of the band know he was with them in spirit. It just doesn't get much better than this. But the one who deserves the most appreciation here was our roadie for the day, 12 year old Jason Cohan. Jason, Mike's nephew, chose to miss his basketball banquet just so he could lend a hand to the band. We didn't know this till after the fact, and that made his contribution on Saturday all the more special. Thanks Jason, you're tops!!! We would also like to thank our guest roadie, Donna "I don't know what the hell this is for" Shinn, for helping us out with the equipment and taking the pics and video for us!!!
Enjoy the pics, and stay posted, because the Surf wants us to come back for a couple of pre-game performances.
Keep on Rockin in The Free World!!!
